The defence of Rorkes Drift is one of the most renowned actions from the background of the British army. It had been at the little mission station along the border of Zululand and Natal where a few thousand Zulus attacked the garrison of under 140 British soldiers. The soldiers fought for their lives through the night and by the early morning, the Zulus had withdrawn. The highest award for gallantry from the British Army is the Victoria Cross and the Battle of Rorkes Drift saw twelve VCs awarded, more than in every other single action in history.

The struggle was depicted in the Stanley Baker movie “Zulu” and one of the leading characters who acted heroically at Rorkes Drift, in the end didn’t get a Victoria Cross. Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne was instead awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal that is ranked 2nd behind the Victoria Cross. In addition, Bourne was also offered a commission however he turn it down. As he was the eighth son in his household, there wasn’t any money to be had and this would have been a time when wealth was used to buy commissions for officers from the British Army.

Nevertheless, Bourne was destined to be a career soldier and a good one too. After South Africa, he was deployed to both India and Burma prior to at long last earning his commission 11 years on from the Battle of Rorkes Drift. He finally retired from the British Army in 1907. Simply 7 years afterwards, World War I started so Bourne rejoined the army. At the conclusion of World War I in 1918, he had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and was made an OBE. Bourne left the army again, on this occasion for ever.

Because of the actor who played the part of Bourne in the motion picture Zulu, a large number of people presumed Frank Bourne to have been in his mid-50s at the time of the Battle of Rorkes Drift although in simple fact he was merely twenty four years old. Following the finish of The Great War, Bourne lived in old age in Beckenham, South London and he was the final survivor of the battle to pass away at the age of 91 on 8th May 1945, the very day the Second World War in Europe came to an end.

Man, there’s gonna be a knock down! I may feel it in my bones! The question is, will bruce knock down mohammad, or will mohammad knock down bruce?

Okay, introductory component to be considered, let’s talk about the physical measurements of the combatants. Bruce lee was only five foot seven and Mohammad ali was six foot three. The point goes to mohammad on this one, even though it’s a weak point when one considers bruces legs.

Let’s take a look at the weigh in. Bruce lees weight went up and down, but at his ripping best he tilted the scales at regarding 160 pounds, mohammad had his ups and downs in weight, also, but he mashed the scales to the tune of 200 pounds. Mohammad gets the nod in this statistic, for 200 pounds of finely tuned fighter is going to have a sizable mallet behind it.

Speed is at all times quite indispensable in a fight, and here the edge goes to bruce. Watch bruce lee, nonetheless, and you will see that his speed is a never-ending blur.

All around martial capacity considered, and bruce takes another point. Yes, mohammad was an awesome physical specimen, but he was limited to fighting with the arms. Honestly, even though we may only award one point here, i would like give more to bruce if i could, for you will undeniably have to tie one of bruces legs behind his back to get an even fight.

One of the deadliest weapons in any fight is at all times going to be the mouth. Plainly, if you talk the talk with brilliant, rapier like wit, you might not have to walk the walk at all. That said, despite script writers feeding bruce, no one internationally could compete with the louiseville lip, why, you will undeniably have to tie one of mohammads lips behind his back, and then they wouldn’t even be in the same arena!

Mohammad has the edge thus far, but the competition is regarding to even up, for we are going to look at the most indispensable question in the martial arts, pure martial cognition. Mohammad knew more, but his was a natural talent, and, as we have talked about, he was restricted to fists. Bruce, then again, not only knew an awesome amount of hits, kicks, trips, throws, and so on, he applied to watch movies of mohammad only to study his techniques!

In conclusion, i am not going to give eitehr fighter a knock out, because these men were just too fast to be laid out. I am, nonetheless, going to give a determination to the small dragon, this because he not only watched movies of mohammad ali, he watched them in a mirror so he could understand the large mohammad on either side! Now that is unbelievably originative and advanced, and i believe it’s the resolving component in awarding the conclusion to bruce!
